Set these up one time and every calculator below does the math with your real pay, your real balance, and your hospital's rules. The numbers showing now are starter values. Change any that are not yours. Built for nurses, CNAs, techs and other hospital staff who earn PTO by the hour.
This sets honest notes and presets for your kind of schedule. It never changes the math.
Differentials are added on top of your base rate, the way your paycheck does it.
If your schedule varies, enter your average week. Results will be a close estimate, not an exact count.
Honest scope: this app is built for staff on a set weekly schedule. If you are PRN with no set week, or a travel nurse on contract with no PTO bank, it does not model your situation honestly yet.
About "8 and 80": overtime after 8 hours in a day or 80 in two weeks - common in hospitals.
Stacking means working your week's shifts on fewer days, so a short stretch off can cost little or no PTO.
Enter your vacation or PTO bank only. If your hospital keeps a separate sick bank, leave those hours out.
Some hospitals take holiday pay out of your PTO bank. If yours does, count the holidays charged per year.
Time off you have already promised yourself before this stretch. It comes off the top so the answer stays honest.
Critical staffing or extra shift bonuses, if your hospital offers them. Leave at zero if not. Charge nurses: if you earn a charge differential on extra shifts, enter it under Bonus ($/hr) so pickup pay includes it. A flat per shift charge amount goes under Flat bonus.
Replay the intro, walk the guided setup again, or look at the worked example.
Pick the first and last day off. Weekends, accrual and how your shifts are arranged are already in the math.
The dates showing are a starting example. Change them to your real first and last day off.
Shortfall means hours you do not have yet when your time off starts.
Weeks run Sunday to Saturday, the way schedules are posted.

Set a dollar goal and a deadline. A pickup means an extra shift, sometimes called an open shift. We work out exactly what one is worth to you, overtime and bonuses included.
Rest guardrail: pickups are always optional. Skip any pace that would push you past your hospital's hour limits or leave you short on rest.

Stack your shifts at the edges of the stretch and the middle days can cost nothing at all. Only where your unit's scheduling rules allow it, and your manager's approval still governs.
One example, on 3 shifts a week with stacking. The day your stretch starts changes everything. The try it section below uses your own schedule.
Starts Wednesday - work the edges: 0 PTO shifts
Starts Sunday - straight through: 3 PTO shifts
Same days off. Different arrangement. Very different cost.
| Days off | Last day off | PTO shifts | PTO hrs |
|---|
Work the early days of the first week and the late days of the last week, and the days off in between get cheaper, sometimes free.
